AUGUST KEY POINTS
LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED
- The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings increased for the seventh consecutive month, to 677,000, and was 2% higher than the same time in the previous year.
- The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings decreased from the previous month, to 1.0 million, and was 11% higher than the same period last year.
- The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings decreased for the tenth consecutive month, to 1.6 million, and was down 13% compared to the same time last year.
MEAT PRODUCTION
- The trend estimate for beef production decreased from the previous month, to 181,000 tonnes, and was up 2% compared to the same period last year.
- The trend estimate for mutton production decreased for the fourth consecutive month to 22,000 tonnes, however increased 8% compared to same time last year.
- The trend estimate for lamb production decreased for the tenth consecutive month, to 32,000 tonnes, and was down 17% on the previous year.
